Summary:

Due to the fuel consumption reduction and higher performance, High-Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) aircrafts are a current trend for a variety of applications like earth-observing, surveillance and reconnaissance of remote regions. Efficient and accurate aerodynamic modeling is of vital importance to real-time simulations of very flexible aircraft. This work aims at the development of an improved aerodynamic model for aeroelastic simulations, increasing the fidelity but keeping an acceptable computational cost. Its focus is on the development of a particle vortex method for unsteady aerodynamic modeling of a set wing/propellers and the interaction between them. The specific objectives are the inclusion of propeller/wing and wing/wing interactions, viscous drag model and stall model and the study of their influence on aeroelastic simulations.
